Join us at the Historic Flight Foundation for a chance to relive history with a world-class Air-to-Air photo opportunity!
Held in conjunction with Vintage Aircraft Weekend, the Historic Flight Foundation will offer its popular Introduction to Air-to-Air Photography Class.
This class will give you the benefit of years of experience from professional aviation photographers. Get insight on the gear that the pros use, the techniques they have perfected, and how they market their amazing images. From beginner to veteran photographer, this class will help you get the most from your camera.
The class will be held in two segments: Ground Instruction at the Paine Field Fire Station Training Room from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 3, and Airborne Instruction onboard Historic Flight's B-25 Mitchell bomber later the same day.
As part of Vintage Aircraft Weekend, class tuition also covers Historic Flight's Hangar Dance on Friday night and access to some of the best vantage points at Paine Field to photograph the Vintage Aircraft Weekend Air Show.
Topics covered in the Ground Instruction will include the following:
1. Tools of the Trade (cameras, lenses, gyro stabilizers, flash units and radio slaves, harnesses and lanyards, headset, gloves, etc.)
2. Pre-planning the mission: Aircraft compatibility, pilot proficiency, and safety
3. The pre-flight briefing, adjusting to conditions & situations in the air, communication methods - primary and back-up, post-flight briefing
4. Elements of the successful photograph - lighting, composition, exposure settings and metering modes
5. What magazines are looking for (multiple A2A angles/views, creative ground detail shots, people, securing images outside of your body of work when necessary)
The Airborne Instruction onboard Historic Flight's B-25 will give you the opportunity to put the methods into practice while shooting actual warbirds.
Airborne participants will be given the opportunity to photograph one of Historic Flight's pristine warbirds such as the P-51B Mustang, "Impatient Virgin." The Photo Op takes you back to the beautiful rolling farmlands of Europe while providing a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, similar to a low-level bombing mission in northern Italy or Germany.
Prior to and during Flight Ops, the opportunity to put your skills to use will continue for all participants with an exclusive viewing area for the Vintage Aircraft Weekend Air Show! Never miss a shot as Historic Flight Foundation, the Flying Heritage Collection, and Heritage Flight Museum fill the air with warbirds in support of Vintage Aircraft Weekend.
Enrollment in the Airborne portion of the Air-to-Air Photography Class also includes an annual membership to the Historic Flight Foundation.
Tuition for the Ground School and Air-to-Air Photography Class from Historic Flight's B-25 is $750. Tuition for the Ground School alone is $100. To register, click here.
PLEASE NOTE: All target aircraft choices are intended for planning purposes with the final aircraft selection to be made the week of the class based on airworthiness and pilot health. In case of inclement weather, the airborne portion of the class will be rescheduled at a later date that coincides with previously scheduled Historic Flight Foundation operations and events. There will be no refund based on change of aircraft.
